WHEN a driver was late for a Christmas party his worried fiancée searched the streets for him – but she did not expect to stumble across the horrific accident which claimed his life. Michael Wake, 30, had been on his way to pick up his parents Jim and Elaine to take them to the party.
But he lost control of his silver Vauxhall Vectra as he left the roundabout at the Junction of Marsh Way and Jacobs Well Road, Wakefield, at 5.45pm on Christmas Eve.
His fiancee Zofia Zalewska learned of the crash when she went out to look for him after she became worried when he did not arrive for the party. She then came across the accident scene.
Michael, who worked at Drayson and Son's Timber Merchants in Ravensthorpe had left home, which he shares with his parents, just after lunchtime.
After picking up his fiancee's daughter Victoria from her home on Hatfield Street, College Grove for a Christmas shopping trip, he took Victoria home at around 5pm and set off to pick up his parents.
Michael's father Jim said: "On Christmas Day the street outside our house was lined with friends and neighbours who all came to pay their respects.
The family, which includes sisters Donna and Andrea, are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination. A funeral service and cremation will be held at Dewsbury Moor Cremation.
