Shropshire mum-of-two Kim Anten has a special reason to look forward to 2006. The 37-year-old from Donnington, Telford, is starting the New Year brimming with confidence ? thanks to a ?15,000-plus makeover.

The mother-of-two happily turned herself over to national reality television programme Extreme Makeover on UK Living TV after begging bosses to give her back her confidence.

At the end of October Kim, from Donnington, was whisked away in secret for six weeks of extensive cosmetic surgery, dental and hair treatments and make-up.

She was not allowed to see any of her friends and family including her two sons, Jason, six, and Kevin, 11, but she maintains it was worth every minute ? because she now feels like she can take on the world.

Kim admits that she had lost all her confidence and energy after losing her twin brother, who died tragically, her mother shortly after and then her father and fiance within six months of each other.

Then she saw an advert looking for people to take part in Extreme Makeover and she applied immediately online. A few weeks later that it was all go and Kim has never looked back.
