Comedian James Gregory will perform Saturday at 8 p.m., when he'll bring his down-home humor to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. Fans of popular radio hosts John Boy and Billy, or Bob and Tom will instantly recognize Gregory's personal, politically incorrect routine. If you've ever been asked to bring a covered dish to a memorial service or patted yourself on the back for racing past a hitchhiker (no matter how old or helpless), you'll likely enjoy Gregory's show. Tickets range from $23.50 to $35.50 plus any applicable fees. For more information or to reserve tickets, visit www.coliseumpac.com or www.funniestman.com.
If it breaks your heart to know that there are those who suffer from serious diseases such as cancer, you should also know that our four-legged friends in the animal kingdom often suffer from similar afflictions.
While veterinary researchers at the University of Georgia are at the forefront of research for better treatments, tests and cures, they need your help. Grab Spot, Rover, Sparky and the rest of the furry gang and head down to the Carriage House at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens on Sunday at 11 a.m. to participate in the Trot for the Cure. All proceeds will help the Arch Foundation continue its efforts to cure the life-threatening medical conditions that plague Man's Best Friend in increasing numbers. Registration is only $25 at the gate, and the Trot will officially begin at 11:30 a.m. There also will be plenty of awesome entertainment for pet lovers, including a "Canine Freestyle Exhibition" (who knew dogs could rap?) at 1 p.m., featuring the Boogie Woogie Bow Wows of Atlanta; a question-and-answer session with veterinary specialists from Charleston and UGA at 2 p.m.; and home-style barbecue will be served at 3 p.m., provided by Southern Que-N-Stew. Registration forms are already available at many veterinarian offices and pet supply stores. For more information, call 971-5865 (before 8 p.m.).
